Is very nice! On Saturday night I went out with Charlotte, Julian and Eirik to celebrate his birthday. Eirik has been experimenting with "raw food" lately and wanted to try a place in Highgate called "Dragonfly Wholefoods". I've always thought that it was an organic food shop and juice bar. I didn't know that they had so much space at the back and that they served such delicious food. They have a good selection of vegetarian, vegan and raw dishes. They also make a variety of juices and smoothies. Everything is subject to availability, so for example if the avocados aren't ripe enough there is no guacamole. I thought it was fine though; there was plenty to chose from. I ordered raw falafel salad. I was pleasently surprised by the refreshing taste of the salad and the explosion of nutty flavours of the falafels. The best time to eat there is between 12pm and 6pm. Their website states that they are open until 8pm, but the owner told us that they need to update the information. She said that they don't have enough business later in the evening so nowadays they close at 7pm. It is definitely worth a try if you are in Highgate. Just stop by for a juice or a "raw cake"! The atmosphere is positively relaxed :)
My raw falafel.
Vegetarian goat cheese lasagne and quinoa.
Strawberry cheesecake and raspberry and chocolate raw cake. Happy Birthday Eirik!
I've been meaning to try Yum Cha for a while and finally last Sunday I managed to go. I ordered all my favourite dim-sum and they were all very yummy. I thought the xiao long bao were very good, because their skin was thin and the stock delicious. I must say that I came here because I heard that their pan-fried turnip cake was exceptional. The turnip cake is probably my favourite and I could eat tons of it. This one was succulent and I really enjoyed it. All in all my experience at Yum Cha was a positive one. The dim-sum were good quality and fairly priced. I'm very happy that I won't need to go into town everytime I fancy some genuine tasting dim-sum. Yum Cha is located on Kentish Town Road, where the old Silk&Spice used to be.
After such a big lunch, I decided to go for a walk. From Kentish Town up to Parliament Hill, then to Highgate and back home to Crouch End. A fair, pleasant walk.
People were swimming and diving in the ponds in Hampstead Heath. It looked like good fun, but I'm not sure I'd like to dip in there...
For dinner I visited my local chippie for the first time in 5 years! Not too bad. I only got chips. I'm not a big fan of deep fried cod. I like the paper bag though :)
The weather has been very warm. I really enjoy it. Unfortunately Torakiki has been suffering all day long in the flat, with her big, fluffy coat. So, last night, we decided to take her down to the garden with her new lead to get a bit of fresh air. Naturally she hated the lead and the garden. She perched herself on a bench looking around suspisciuosly. Something was wrong... A fox was approaching!
She was extremely friendly and fearless. She kept on coming closer and closer and followed me around.
I asked a neighbour, who was reading in the garden, and he told me that the fox lived in the shrubbery at the back of our building, but he had never seen her so relaxed. She must have liked me!
Torakiki was a bit weary of the new friend at first, but then she just concentrated in rolling all over the place and making herself very dirty...
One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy. Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told. Eight for a wish, Nine for a kiss, Ten a surprise you should be careful not to miss. Eleven for health, Twelve for wealth, Thirteen beware it's the devil himself.
Little girls, this seems to say, never stop upon your way, never trust a stranger friend, no one knows how it will end! As you're pretty, so be wise! Wolves may lurk in every guise! Now, as then, it's simple truth, sweetest tongue has sharpest tooth!
